Off to somewhat of a late start to her career, Regina Hall debuted in her first television commercial at the age of 26 years old. She then broke into TV with a recurring role on the soap opera, Loving, and guest spots on New York Undercover, FOX’s police drama.
After three years of Meisner master training at William Esper Studios, Hall debuted on the silver screen in 1999 with a small role as a stripper named Candy, in the movie The Best Man. Her intensive training paid off resulting in a memorable impression on movie goers and a turning point in her career. Her rising star status gained her roles in Love & Basketball and later in the TV movie, Disappearing Acts, which earned her a Black Reel nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
If her depiction of Candy in The Best Man was a turning point, her portrayal of the emotionally forthright and often unfiltered, Brenda Meeks, in the comedic horror spoof, Scary Movie, was a catapult to her movie career in 2000. Brenda gained near instant fame with her role as the colorful sidekick with an attitude in the original movie and even more fame followed with sequels Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4.
In 2001, after a couple of minor roles in film and TV, Regina Hall landed a recurring part on Ally McBeal, a prime-time drama. Her character, Coretta Lipp, was turned into a main character on the show by the fifth season. The following year, Hall landed a starring role in Paid in Full, directed by Charles Stone III. Her portrayal of Coretta on Ally McBeal earned her a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003.
She then secured leading roles and honed her improvisation skills in as the female lead, Shondra in Malibu’s Most Wanted with Jamie Kennedy, Taye Diggs and Anthony Anderson and as Peaches in King’s Ransom again with Anderson. Also in 2005 she starred opposite Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps in The Honeymooners, a remake of the groundbreaking TV series. The following year she won Best Actress at the San Diego Film Festival for her role as psychiatrist to title character in Danika.
Regina Hall landed a role in the 2007 action film Once Upon a Time in the Hood with Steven Seagal, and then had a supporting role to Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen in 2009. Regina Hall followed those with a role alongside Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, and Danny Glover in Death at a Funeral, a remake of a British film of the same name, released in April of 2010. Scary Movie 5 publicity by Weinstein Company, this time included Regina Hall’s image as she once again joined an all star cast.
Spurred by her mother’s illness, Regina Hall is committed to raising public awareness of scleroderma. She holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from NYU and in November 2010 announced that she added her writing talent to ABILITY Magazine.
